4 Ways Chiropractic Can Help Your Show Dog

Chiropractic helping a show dog

Head up, tail up, nice topline, good conformation. Important criteria that every show dog handler and owner pay attention to. Chiropractic care is a great way to give your show dog the edge at his next dog show.

Better Movement

Gait is very important when showing a dog. A show dog should move gracefully around the ring. When there are joint restrictions in the shoulders, hips or pelvis, it can affect a dog's gait causing pacing, short striding and even stutter-stepping. Chiropractic adjustments can restore motion allowing the dog to regain his effortless strides.

Better Topline

Ever heard of a roach back? Low back pain can cause a dog to hold their spine in a certain way in the hopes that it will relieve some of the pain. This creates the appearance of a hunchback or roach back and of course, affects a dog's topline. Chiropractic adjustments can help decrease the pain so the dog feels better, has less tension in his back resulting in a level and smooth topline.

Better Head Position

One reason your dog may carry his head low or at a tilt is a misalignment in her neck. Gentle chiropractic adjustments can help remove misalignments and restore motion to the neck, allowing her to hold her head up high again. (Please note that there are other causes for a lowered head and for this reason, it's best to seek veterinary care for your pup first.)

Better Tail Height

How a dog is feeling is indicated by his tail. Pain, muscle tension or tenderness in the low back or pelvis can cause a lowered tail. A main cause of this is a misalignment of the spine or sacrum. Many times I've seen a dropped tail come to life after an adjustment!
