Is CBD Oil Good for Your Pet?

**Please note: This article is not intended to be a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment of any animal ailment. As individual needs vary, always check with your veterinarian before introducing new treatments to your pet.**
First things first, giving CBD oil to your dog is not the same as giving your dog marijuana!
CBD does not have the properties to get anyone, or any animal, high. Conversely, marijuana, can be extremely harmful to your pets. Precautions must be taken to make sure that your pet doesn’t have an opportunity to grab that joint or any pot laced products thinking it's a treat. Emergency visits to the vet for accidental marijuana ingestion by pets have increased by an alarming amount since marijuana has been legalized in Canada!
But Is CBD Oil Safe?
Yes. CBD is generally considered to be safe and side effects are rare. This is why so many owners are seeking CBD for their dogs and cats. Most reported side effects are from an interaction of drugs and CBD. So it's very important to always check with your vet first, especially if your sweetheart is already on pharmaceuticals.
Can I Use CBD Oil For Pain?
Yes. In fact, the most promising research on CBD is that done on pain. From nerve pain to arthritis, it seems to work very well and carry less side effects than traditional pain medication. CBD binds to certain receptors in the brain and nervous system and can change how your pet's brain perceives pain. As a bonus, CBD can help decrease sleeplessness and nausea!
What Else Can It Help?
CBD oil can help dogs and cats through a variety of issues, such as:
Immune issues (such as allergies and cancer)
Seizures and epilepsy
Joint pain and inflammation
Anxiety and stress
Digestive issues
And more pet owners are turning to this hemp-derived oil in order to avoid potentially harmful medications.
However it is extremely important to do your research when choosing your manufacturer - just like when you're choosing supplements for yourself. Some oils are higher quality than others; it is critical to ensure the oil is pure and free of toxic residues.
CBD and its effects on people and animals continues to be researched and I'm sure it will become more and more popular as a way to decrease pain and other conditions.
